ACT TESTING

The late registration deadline for the April 15th ACT exam is March 24th. The deadline to register for the June 10th ACT exam is May 19th. Register online at http://www.act.org/  See Mrs. Harrison for help with registration and for fee waiver information.  Fee waivers are available for 11th and 12th grade students.

SLC STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

The Student Leadership Council at the United States Department of Veterans Affairs is accepting applications for the 2023 Student Ambassadors cohort. This program focuses on equipping students with the necessary resources, training, and experiences to become leaders. Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 18 years old. This year's program will begin tentatively on May 7th and end on August 27th, 2023. Students will complete the core learning content through Google Classroom and will have an assigned mentor from the Veteran community. Students will complete volunteer service hours within their local community. Contact Mrs. Harrison for more information. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2023.

Opaa! Kenneth L. Short Memorial Scholarship- Applications are available online for the Opaa! Kenneth L. Short Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is open to high school seniors in a current Opaa! School District planning to pursue an Associate Degree, Bachelor's Degree or Certificate. Preference will be given to students entering the foodservice/hospitality industry. Southeast Missouri Central Labor Council Scholarship- Applications are available in Mrs. Harrison's office for the Southeast Missouri Central Labor Council Roy Gunter Memorial Scholarship. Scholarships, up to four, will be awarded with amounts ranging from $1,000 to $500. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2023.

Jessica "Precious" Rose Scholarship- Applications are available in Mrs. Harrison's office for the Jessica "Precious" Rose Scholarship. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 8, 2023.

 

LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Horace H. Dunagan, Jr. Memorial Scholarship- Applications are available in Mrs. Harrison's office for the First State Bank & Trust Horace Dunagan, Jr. Memorial Scholarship. This is a $500 scholarship award. Applicants must have a 3.0 gpa or higher and an ACT Composite of 21 or higher. The deadline to apply is April 10, 2023.

Laken Palmer Memorial Scholarship-Applications are available in Mrs. Harrison's office for the Laken Palmer Memorial Scholarship. The deadline to apply is April 14th, 2023.

Clarence and Dorothy Wade Scholarship- Applications are available in Mrs. Harrison's office for the Clarence and Dorothy Wade Scholarship. Several awards are available, varying from $500 to $1,000. The deadline to apply is April 15, 2023.

First State Community Bank Scholarship- Applications are available in Mrs. Harrison's office for the First State Community Bank Scholarship. This is a $1,000 scholarship. The deadline to apply is April 15th, 2023.

Hayti Central School-Parent Chapter Scholarship Awards-Applications are available in Mrs. Harrison's office for the Hayti Central School-Parent Chapter Book Scholarship Award. This is a $500 scholarship and is to be used for textbooks. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 21, 2023.

Project DRIVE- Three Rivers College

Three Rivers College is offering FREE training programs this summer to help recent high school graduates get valuable skills for a great start in life. After successfully completing one of these programs, students earn a certificate which can be used to get a job in your chosen area, or students can continue at Three Rivers College and turn the certificate into an Associate of Applied Science degree. Training programs will be offered in the following areas: Welding, CDL, Construction, Industrial Production Technician, and Early Childhood Education. Apply online at http://trcc.edu/academics/workforce-development/project-drive/  Admission is first come, first served so apply now. The deadline to apply is April 14, 2023.

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS

Seniors, now is the time to start applying for admission to colleges. Many college have waived their application fees. Fee waivers are also available to use for application fees at most colleges and universities. Several colleges have also waived ACT test score requirements as part of the admissions process. Please see Mrs. Harrison if you would like more information or if you would like help completing your college applications.

FINANCIAL AID FOR COLLEGE

Seniors, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is available online. Completing the FAFSA is the first step to see if you qualify for grants, work-study programs, and student loans. Some scholarship programs also use information from your FAFSA to determine eligibility for scholarship programs. The website for the FAFSA application is http://fafsa.gov/

You will also need to create your FSA ID (Federal Student Aid ID). Create your username and password at the following website https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch. Please contact Mrs. Harrison if you need any help or have any questions about applying for financial aid.

SELECTIVE SERVICE SYSTEM REGISTRATION

Federal law requires all men between the ages of 18 through 25 to register with the Selective Service System. If you are a young man who is 18 years old, you must register within 30 days of your birthday. Your password to login is your receipt number. Please select the pose that you want to use for the Senior Composite picture/yearbook and let Mrs. Harrison know the pose number by March 15th.

William H. Cooper Memorial Leadership Scholarship- Applications are available for the First State

Community Bank William H. Cooper Leadership Scholarship. Applicants must intend to further their education in a business-related field and attend a 2 year or 4 year college or university. A $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to the winner. One alternate will receive a $2,500 scholarship and two additional finalists will each receive a $1,250 scholarship.
